On the occasion of Union Day in Abu Dhabi, the iconic yellow-and-white taxis from the 80s will make a comeback
To commemorate the 52nd Union Day, the capital of the United Arab Emirates will reintroduce yellow and white taxis. It is highlighted that these iconic vehicles will return to the streets of Abu Dhabi in modernized and more comfortable versions.
This initiative was announced by the Integrated Transport Center (ITC) of the Department of Municipalities and Transport. The intention is to serve as a reminder of the transformations that have occurred in the country from the 90s to the present day, as reported by ZAWYA.
Ateeq Al Mazrouei, Director of the Planning Department of the Integrated Transport Center, stated, "These taxis serve as a reminder of the changes that have transpired from the past to the present. In the 90s, the service was quite simple. Now, you can book a taxi through an app or call center, make payments using alternative methods such as cards and apps, and avail many other options."
He mentioned that currently, there are approximately 100 yellow and white taxis operating on the streets of the mainland, attracting the attention of passersby.
"At present, we have only 100 taxis. Inside the taxi, there is a QR code for a survey. We encourage passengers to provide feedback. They can also reach our call center at 600 53 53 53 to express their opinions. Depending on their feedback, we will decide whether to expand the fleet or maintain it at 100 taxis," added Al Mazrouei.
