One of the tallest skyscrapers to be built in Birmingham: local residents are concerned
Many people know Birmingham's Broad Street as the center of the city's nightlife, offering everything from favorite clubs to canal-side bars. However, there's another thing it may soon become known for, and that's having some of the largest skyscrapers in the city center.
"The Golden Mile is already home to apartment buildings such as The Mercian, and other proposed towers have recently been given the green light to build. However, one Birmingham councillor recently said he was concerned about plans to create a "long stretch of high-rise buildings" along Broad Street, BirminghamLive reports.
"While there is a clear need to build tall buildings to meet our housing needs, we need to make sure they are centrally located," he said at a recent planning committee meeting. Manager Jane Jones, meanwhile, admitted that she was "a little overwhelmed by the number of incredibly tall buildings in the city."
The day before, plans for a huge 47-story skyscraper on Broad Street were approved despite concerns about the number of available homes.
The complex is planned to house 525 apartments, as well as a lobby, a lounge for residents, a gym, a wellness space and event space.
As TravelWise reported earlier, small cities located near London and offering comfortable living conditions and natural surroundings were named.
