Planned Engineering Work to Impact UK Rail Services
Network Rail has announced planned engineering work that will affect rail services across the UK. The work, essential for maintaining and improving rail infrastructure, will occur over the weekends, on bank holidays, and after 10 PM on weekdays. This may result in longer travel times due to the operation of replacement buses.
From May 25 to May 27, services via Denmark Hill will see significant alterations. Southeastern trains between London Victoria and Dartford, Gillingham, and Dover Priory, as well as Thameslink services between London Victoria, London Blackfriars, and Orpington, will be affected.
Engineering work will close lines between Brixton and Nunhead/Ravensbourne. Southeastern's Bexleyheath line trains between London Victoria and Dartford will not run. Sole Street line trains between London Victoria and Gillingham/Dover Priory via Denmark Hill will run non-stop between London Victoria and Bromley South on Saturday and Monday. Certain services will be diverted to/from Ramsgate, with connecting trains between Faversham and Dover Priory. Alternative services will be available at no extra cost.
Thameslink trains to/from Sevenoaks/Orpington will run to an amended timetable, diverted via Herne Hill, Kent House, and Beckenham Junction. Replacement buses will operate between Herne Hill and Bromley South, calling at all stations via Catford except Nunhead and Ravensbourne. For these stations, London Bus routes will be available.
Additionally, from May 25 to May 27, buses will replace trains between Gravesend and Rochester due to engineering work between Gravesend and Higham. Southeastern high-speed trains via Gravesend will run only between London St Pancras International and Gravesend, with replacement buses running between Gravesend and Rochester, calling at Strood. Thameslink trains will not run between Gravesend and Strood, with reduced services running between London and Gravesend.
Alterations are also in place for trains between Ashford International and Ramsgate via Dover Priory due to detected ground movement. This affects trains from Ramsgate to London St Pancras International via Dover Priory and from Dover Priory to London Charing Cross. Some late-night Southeastern trains will see changes due to overnight engineering work at various locations, affecting services between Ashford International and Ramsgate via Canterbury West, and between Faversham and Ramsgate via Margate.
Travelers are advised to check the National Rail Enquiries Journey Planner or the Transport for London Journey Planner before traveling. Replacement bus travel advice and station-specific information can be found on the respective websites. Passengers should allow extra time for their journeys as replacement vehicles may be busier than usual.
