Purple Transform is aiming to enhance its AI suicide prevention tool with Project SAIVE on railway stations
During the UK Government’s tech and business innovation conference in Manchester, Purple Transform, a startup collaborating with the University of Lancaster and Cisco, unveiled its suicide prevention tool tailored for the railways. This tool utilizes "deep learning" and data modeling techniques to provide tangible assistance to individuals in need.
Alan O’Reilly, the chief information officer at Purple Transform, emphasized the importance of Project SAIVE, which received funding from Innovate UK. He announced plans to expand the project beyond its initial pilot site, currently operational with Govia Thameslink.
O’Reilly stressed the necessity of multiple test sites to comprehensively assess the tool's effectiveness, stating, "Having one location is not enough to prove definitively if it works or not."
Beyond the immediate human impact, O’Reilly underscored the financial and reputational repercussions associated with railway suicides. Purple Transform's initiative seeks to mitigate these consequences while offering vital support to those in crisis.
Furthermore, the implementation of such a tool is expected to provide a sense of security and reassurance to travelers, potentially easing concerns about safety while using railway services. By addressing the issue of suicide prevention, Purple Transform aims to create a more supportive and secure environment for all railway passengers.
