RMT Suspends Strike Action on ScotRail After Guard Role Secured
The Rail, Maritime, and Transport Workers (RMT) union has successfully secured the role of the guard on every train along the Barrhead and East Kilbride route, leading to the suspension of planned strike action. This resolution ensures that conductors will continue their critical responsibilities, including train dispatch and door control on departure.
The strikes, initially set for May 18, 19, 25, 26, and June 1, 2, have been called off following this agreement. RMT general secretary Mick Lynch highlighted the significance of this victory, attributing it to the union members' dedication and strong strike efforts.
Lynch emphasized that this outcome demonstrates the industrial strength of the RMT and the ability to reach a reasonable negotiated settlement with ScotRail and the Scottish government. The union's steadfastness has resulted in a favorable resolution that maintains the safety and operational standards of the railway services.
This development marks a notable success for the RMT, ensuring the continued presence and responsibilities of guards on the trains. The decision to suspend the strikes is a relief for commuters and a testament to the union's commitment to securing the best outcomes for its members.
