Romanian Village Revives Historic Homes to Attract Travelers
In the heart of Romania, the village of Șimon is revitalizing its century-old houses to draw in tourists. This initiative offers visitors the unique experience of staying in traditional homes, restored to preserve their historical charm while providing modern comforts.
Travelers seeking an intimate and authentic experience are finding these refurbished homes ideal. The project ensures that visitors enjoy privacy and tranquility, whether they're relaxing in the courtyard, walking through the gardens, or hosting a barbecue. This new offering caters to tourists looking for a serene getaway, away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Tourists have shown great enthusiasm for this initiative, praising the serene atmosphere and the unique energy of the restored homes. This blend of silence, nature, and history is becoming a significant draw for visitors. Many owners of these traditional houses have preserved various antiques and artifacts, adding to the nostalgic charm and authenticity of the experience.
In 2003, the Girbacea Family of Simon/Bran decided to preserve their 100-year-old peasant home. With the help of their son-in-law, Adi Posedaru, they dismantled and relocated it to a scenic hilltop near the Inn on Balaban. Reconstructed in 2008, the house was ready to welcome guests by spring 2009.
The original two-room house was transformed into an inn with four bedrooms and private bathrooms. Local craftsmen hand-cut replacement timber and crafted the shingled roof, preserving the architectural style unique to the area. The old ceiling beams, engraved with symbols marking significant events, add a historical touch to the restoration.
The restoration project in Șimon is more than just a preservation effort; it’s a significant development for the travel industry in the region. By maintaining and showcasing its heritage, the village not only attracts tourists but also fosters an appreciation for traditional Romanian culture and architecture. This initiative promises a unique travel experience that combines history, culture, and tranquility.
