Ryanair Exposes eDreams Prime Overcharges: Up to 38% More Expensive
Ryanair has revealed in its June OTA Pirate Survey that eDreams Prime is significantly overcharging its customers. According to the survey published on June 11, eDreams' so-called discounted fares under its Prime subscription are still more expensive than booking directly with airlines.
The survey highlights that eDreams is charging €44 for an EasyJet flight that costs just €31.99 when booked directly, marking a 38% overcharge. Similarly, a Wizz Air flight was advertised by eDreams for €38, despite being available for €31.99 on the airline's own website. This trend of overcharging is consistent across various routes and airlines.
Ryanair claims this practice exposes eDreams Prime as a scam, misleading customers with false promises of discounts. Instead of providing genuine savings, eDreams applies hidden mark-ups, creating fictitious discounts. The June survey reaffirms these findings, emphasizing the need for consumer protection against such practices.
In April, Ryanair submitted a formal complaint to Spanish Consumer Affairs Minister Pablo Bustinduy, urging action against eDreams' deceptive pricing. Ryanair demands that eDreams be required to offer transparent pricing, similar to Ryanair’s "Approved OTA" partners.
Dara Brady of Ryanair criticized eDreams, stating that their Prime subscription, which costs €64.99, falsely claims to offer discounted prices. He emphasized that eDreams inflates airline fares to almost double the actual price, duping consumers into believing they are getting better deals.
This ongoing issue highlights the importance of vigilance for consumers when booking flights. Direct bookings with airlines remain the safest way to ensure transparency and avoid hidden charges.
