Ryanair plane makes its shortest flight with passengers on board
A Ryanair plane flying from Treviso, Italy, made one of the shortest flights for a Boeing 737, with a route of only 7 km.
The flight was made between two airports in Bucharest, Romania, according to the Aeronews aviation community on its Facebook page. The unscheduled flight took place as the runway at Bucharest's main airport, Otopeni, was closed for 30 minutes due to snow removal. As a result, the plane landed at the old airport in the Romanian capital, Băneasa.
The airline decided not to disembark the passengers in Beniassi and only to refuel there, clear the plane of ice, and take off for Otopeni.
Despite the fact that the distance between the airports' runways in a straight line is less than 7 km, the plane had to circle to land.
A short flight with passengers between Bucharest airports also allowed RyanAir to avoid the risk of passengers claiming compensation for an "incomplete flight".
It was probably the shortest flight for a Boeing 737 between different airports in terms of distance.
