Ryanair was named the worst British airline: passengers massively complain about extortion
Dozens of Ryanair passengers have complained that they had to pay £110 to print their boarding passes at the airport.
The low-cost airline was even dubbed the worst British airline. The stories of passengers were shared by the Daily Mail.
The newspaper reportedly received inundated emails from families, couples and single travelers who said they were also unpleasantly surprised by Ryanair's airport check-in.
Among the readers who got in touch to share their story was the Irvine family from Bangor, County Down, who had to pay £275 for two adults and two children to check in for a Ryanair flight from Belfast to Malaga in July.
They said they were ordered to pay £55 each after the QR codes did not go through to the Ryanair app before the flight.
Other Ryanair passengers who contacted the media included Jackie Andrew from Strathaven in South Lanarkshire.
She and her husband Bill Andrew had to pay the same check-in fee at Malaga airport five years ago and said they had never flown Ryanair since.
Sonia and Tony Hinson, a British couple who live in New Zealand and flew from London to Nantes in France a month ago, also had to pay.
Ryanair says passengers should check in on the Ryanair website and print or download their boarding pass before arriving at the airport - two hours before their scheduled departure.
Once passengers have checked in online, they can print copies of their boarding passes or download them to their mobile phones two hours before their scheduled departure time.
The boarding pass must be printed on one A4 page or downloaded via the Ryanair app.
Passengers cannot check in online within two hours before the scheduled departure time.
Unless a passenger has a Plus or Flexi Plus ticket, if they do not check in online more than two hours before their scheduled departure time, they will be charged an airport check-in fee of £55 per passenger.
This amount must be paid before the check-in desk closes 40 minutes before the scheduled departure time.
