ScotRail Conductors Set to Strike Over Guard Responsibilities

ScotRail workers, represented by the RMT union, are gearing up for a series of impactful strikes on the Barrhead and East Kilbride routes due to disputes over the roles of train conductors. The strikes are scheduled to occur over three weekends: May 18-19, May 25-26, and June 1-2.

In the wake of growing concerns over job responsibilities, including dispatch duties and the operation of doors, ScotRail conductors have voiced significant unease. These duties are deemed critical to both the safety and proper functioning of train services.

The decision for the strike followed a strong mandate from the union members, where 76% voted in favor of the action, backed by a 79% voter turnout. Mick Lynch, RMT General Secretary, expressed the resolve of the members, highlighting their refusal to accept any diminution of their roles.

The upcoming strikes underscore a broader call for the Scottish government to recognize the essential services provided by these workers and to engage in meaningful negotiations to resolve the disputes.
