Several cars get stuck after Google Maps leads them "straight into the desert with no road"
Google has apologized to travelers who were directed to the Mojave Desert in California while traveling from Las Vegas to Los Angeles.
Shelby Isler, a user of the application, said that it happened when she and her brother were using Google Maps to bypass a closed interstate highway, FOX Business reports.
"We apologize for the incident and will no longer direct drivers traveling between Las Vegas and Barstow on these roads," a Google spokesperson said.
Isler noted that the proposed route went "straight into the desert with no road." She said all the vehicles, which were apparently following the same route from the same Google Maps directions, got stuck on the dirt road.
Isler said they waited for hours for a tow truck because of the damage to her car.
The California Highway Patrol was dealing with accidents on the freeway and could not reach her and other vehicles in the desert.
