A London bus route has been heavily criticized after six out of seven single decker buses and ten double deckers were taken off the road, causing significant disruptions. The W9 route, which runs between Chase Farm Hospital and Southgate Station in Enfield, North London, has faced numerous complaints due to frequent service failures.

Transport for London (TfL) disclosed in response to a freedom of information request that the W9 bus is among the worst-performing routes in the city, with at least 20% of buses failing to show up. This situation has significant implications for travelers relying on public transport to navigate London.

The W9 serves various areas with poor Public Transport Accessibility Levels (PTAL), connecting residents to schools, Overground train stations, and Southgate Tube station. These frequent disruptions pose a challenge for tourists and visitors who depend on the W9 for seamless travel between key locations in North London.

A TfL case officer noted that the W9's performance is regularly discussed with Sullivans, the route operator, during periodic performance meetings. Sullivans has been asked to present a performance improvement plan at the next review meeting. According to review documents, significant issues with the single deck buses have been a major concern, stating, "Single deck buses are particularly problematic."

The performance problems are attributed to ongoing challenges in acquiring parts for the buses, with six out of seven single deckers and ten double deckers currently out of service. Additionally, difficulties in recruiting drivers for the W9 route have exacerbated the situation, further affecting service reliability.

Suspension issues due to speed humps along the route have also been cited as contributing factors to the service disruptions. The W9 route has accumulated at least 289 complaints from frustrated passengers, including tourists and visitors.

For travelers planning to explore North London, these disruptions mean considering alternative transportation options. The unreliable service on the W9 route could lead to delays and inconvenience, impacting travel itineraries and overall experiences in the city.

MyLondon has reached out to Sullivan Buses for comments on the situation. Meanwhile, visitors are advised to stay updated on the status of the W9 route and plan accordingly to avoid potential travel disruptions.
