The international Rail Business Days expo, held in Ostrava, Czechia, has become the stage for unveiling Stadler's newest FLIRT electric multiple-unit trains, designed to revolutionize travel in Serbia.

Serbian Railways (Srbija Voz) finalized a deal in late 2021 with Stadler for 18 state-of-the-art FLIRT trains aimed at enhancing regional travel across the country. This new fleet promises to bring a significant upgrade in comfort and efficiency for passengers, building on the success of previous collaborations in 2014 and 2015.

Eight of the 18 new FLIRT trains have already arrived in Serbia. The first two units are currently undergoing rigorous testing on Serbian tracks, including passenger runs lasting up to 30 days or covering 15,000 kilometers. Once these trials are successfully completed, the trains will be officially commissioned for service, with full delivery expected by April 2025.

Ivan Bulajić, General Director of Srbija Voz, emphasized the positive impact these new trains will have on Serbian travel. He noted that since the first batch of FLIRT trains was introduced in 2015, passenger satisfaction has soared due to their modern amenities and reliability. With the addition of these 18 new units, Serbian Railways aims to further elevate the travel experience and expand their service offerings.

The FLIRT trains are celebrated for their comfort, featuring spacious seating, modern facilities, and smooth rides. As Stadler's best-selling model, the FLIRT has already proven its worth in 23 countries, with approximately 2,640 units sold globally.

Željko Davidović, Sales Manager for Central and Eastern Europe at Stadler, expressed his excitement about the project. He believes that the new FLIRT trains will greatly enhance the travel experience in Serbia and hopes that their success will inspire interest from other countries in the region.
