Star Alliance Adopts IATA Timatic AutoCheck for Seamless Travel
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) and Star Alliance have strengthened their partnership by implementing Timatic AutoCheck, a new travel documentation and verification system. This technology will be utilized by Star Alliance's 26 member airlines to support contactless travel.
Timatic AutoCheck simplifies the travel process by providing accurate immigration information and automating document checks with customized instructions for each passenger. This enhancement is critical as passenger numbers are expected to double by 2040, necessitating more efficient airport operations.
This new system aims to reduce the time spent verifying travel documents, benefiting over 340 million travelers annually. According to Star Alliance CEO Theo Panagiotoulias, the adoption of Timatic AutoCheck will significantly improve customer experience and operational efficiency.
IATA Director General Willie Walsh emphasized that Timatic AutoCheck will facilitate smoother travel by navigating complex regulations, boosting confidence among passengers. A recent IATA Global Passenger Survey highlighted that complex visa requirements deter travelers, with many preferring a digital visa process.
The survey revealed that 36% of travelers have avoided destinations due to immigration requirements, with 49% citing process complexity as the main issue. Additionally, 66% prefer obtaining visas online, and 87% are willing to share their travel information to expedite airport procedures.
Timatic AutoCheck leverages travelers' readiness to use online services, providing a user-friendly solution for airlines, ground handlers, and travel agents. This system ensures compliance with immigration requirements, streamlining the entire travel experience.
