Star Alliance Unveils Its First Lounge in Asia at Guangzhou Airport
Star Alliance, the world’s largest airline alliance, has officially opened its first branded lounge in Asia at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN). Located in Terminal 1’s international area, the lounge is accessible to Star Alliance Gold members and first and business class passengers flying with member airlines from Terminal 1. The new facility, covering 750 square meters, operates 24/7 and accommodates up to 100 guests.
A Premier Experience for Travelers
Strategically positioned near the departure gates for Star Alliance member airlines, the lounge offers convenience and luxury for travelers. Its modern design includes an open layout with a glass façade providing views of the airfield. Amenities include workstations, relaxation areas, and a VIP room for private business meetings. Guests can enjoy a selection of regional and international food, curated beverages, and a unique Tea Appreciation Corner celebrating Guangzhou’s rich tea culture. Shower suites are also available for those seeking to refresh before their flights.
Star Alliance CEO Theo Panagiotoulias emphasized the significance of this addition: "As a key strategic hub in Asia, Guangzhou serves as an important gateway for our guests. We are excited to inaugurate our first lounge in Asia, given the significance of the continent to aviation growth today and in the years to come."
Why Guangzhou?
Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport has emerged as a critical hub for Asian and international travel. Ten Star Alliance member airlines, including Singapore Airlines, Turkish Airlines, and ANA, operate 774 weekly departures from this airport to 50 destinations across 10 countries. The lounge is part of a collaboration between the airport and Star Alliance to enhance passenger experiences and strengthen Guangzhou’s role as a global aviation hub.
The alliance plans to expand further, with another lounge set to open in the upcoming Terminal 3 of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport.
