As travel volumes begin to rise, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is reminding flyers of the carry-on regulations for liquids. Designed to keep security lines moving swiftly, the TSA's 3-1-1 liquids rule specifies that travelers can carry liquids in 3.4-ounce containers, neatly packed within a single quart-sized bag.

What to Pack in Your Carry-On

Prior to airport arrival, passengers should prepare their carry-on bags in compliance with the TSA's stipulations. The regulation allows for small travel-sized containers of liquids, gels, creams, and pastes, which must fit comfortably in the quart-sized bag. This includes everyday items like toothpaste, shampoo, and hand sanitizer. By packing these separately, passengers can expedite their passage through security checkpoints.

Larger Liquids Go in Checked Bags

For those needing items exceeding the 3.4-ounce limit, such as full-sized toiletries or large bottles of lotion, the solution is simple: pack them in checked luggage. There's no limit on liquid volumes in checked baggage, offering flexibility for those longer stays or special product requirements.

Duty-Free and Additional Screenings

Travelers should also be mindful of duty-free liquid purchases. Items over the 3.4-ounce threshold should be packed in secure, tamper-evident bags and accompanied by a visible receipt. These, along with any liquids that trigger an alarm, will be subject to additional screening measures.

In presenting these rules, the TSA aims to balance security with convenience. By reminding passengers of the 3-1-1 rule, they hope to ensure a smoother and more efficient screening process for everyone. As we approach the bustling travel season, understanding and adhering to these regulations is key for a hassle-free airport experience. With this knowledge in hand, travelers can focus on the journey ahead, reassured that their preparation will lead to a smoother takeoff.
