In April 1912, when the Titanic set sail from Southampton on its maiden voyage to New York, it was called the most luxurious way to cross the Atlantic Ocean. The ship was carrying representatives of the elite of American and British society. Among them was John Jacob Astor, the richest man to travel on the Titanic.

Today's super-rich would not use passenger transportation services. Today's superyachts have some of the same luxurious amenities as the Titanic, such as a swimming pool or sauna.

At 269 meters long, the Titanic was much larger than any modern superyacht. At a cost of $7.5 million, it was one of the most expensive ships of the time - today it is worth almost $200 million. Today's multibillionaires spend much more to transport themselves and their closest friends and family.
