Sustainable Travel and Art Initiatives at Castle Drogo
Castle Drogo is set to host a series of eco-friendly activities during the Great Big Green Week from June 8 to 16. Located in the heart of Dartmoor National Park, Castle Drogo is inviting visitors to contribute to a community art project known as the Mossy Carpet, organized by the Art and Energy Collective. Participants can help by making pompoms or embroidering sections of the carpet.
To encourage sustainable travel, Castle Drogo is providing a free shuttle bus service from Okehampton on specific dates. The shuttle service will be available on June 8, 10, 12, 14, and 15, aiming to reduce the need for car travel and promote environmental responsibility.
The shuttle bus schedule is coordinated with train arrivals from Exeter at Okehampton train station. On Saturdays, the buses will leave at 9:30, 10:30, and 11:30, while on weekdays, the buses will operate at 9:30 and 11:30. The return trips from Castle Drogo are set for 2:35 and 4:35.
The bus will pick up passengers at Okehampton train station and Fore Street (McColls) before heading to Castle Drogo. The drop-off point is near the Visitor Centre entrance, where visitors can find a café, shop, and other facilities. Full bus schedules are available on the Dartmoor National Trust website.
Visitors using the shuttle bus during the Great Big Green Week will receive a voucher for a free hot drink at the castle café. This initiative is part of Castle Drogo's efforts to support sustainable travel and engage the community in environmentally friendly practices.
