TAP Air Portugal Launches New Route to Florianópolis
Starting September 3, 2024, TAP Air Portugal will introduce a new route connecting Lisbon to Florianópolis, the capital of Santa Catarina in southern Brazil. This new service will operate three times a week, providing a direct link between the two cities.
TAP's decision to add Florianópolis as its 12th destination in Brazil is part of its strategy to diversify and strengthen its presence in its most significant market. The new route highlights the geographical advantage of Portugal as a gateway to over 50 destinations across Europe for Brazilian travelers.
The flights will be serviced by an Airbus A330-200, accommodating 269 passengers, including 244 in Economy class and 25 in Business class. The journey time is approximately 11 hours. Flights will depart from Lisbon on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and return flights from Florianópolis will operate on the same days.
This new route comes at a crucial time as the region faces challenges due to the state of calamity in Rio Grande do Sul and the closure of Porto Alegre airport. TAP’s CEO, Luís Rodrigues, emphasized the importance of launching this route earlier than planned to support the needs of southern Brazil. He reiterated TAP’s commitment to being the preferred European airline for Brazilian customers.
The new Lisbon-Florianópolis route is expected to enhance travel convenience and options for both Portuguese and Brazilian travelers, further solidifying TAP’s role as a key player in transatlantic aviation.
