The crime rate in this popular resort has skyrocketed: Tourists are advised to be quiet and remain vigilant
The U.S. Embassy has issued a warning to vacationers travelling to the Bahamas, a popular cruise vacation destination. Due to an increase in crime, tourists were advised to follow safety tips.
There have already been 18 murders in the capital since the beginning of 2024, which looks like a very disturbing trend. According to Express.co.uk, the embassy's warning advised to remain vigilant at all times.
The statement reads, "The U.S. Embassy in Nassau recommends that U.S. citizens be aware that there have been 18 homicides in Nassau since the beginning of 2024. Murders are occurring at any time, even in broad daylight on the streets. The main motive in the 2024 murders was gang violence in response."
The Bahamas has been characterized as a resort where "extreme caution" should be exercised. Tourists were advised to be quiet and not attract the attention of criminals.
"Be vigilant when staying in short-term rental properties that do not have private security companies," the warning says.
On January 15, 2024, the British government warned tourists against walking outside tourist areas and beaches and advised to avoid unlit areas and travel in groups after dusk.
