Wildfires in Greece continue to intensify, forcing authorities to take increasingly drastic measures to protect the population. On Monday, civil authorities ordered residents of five more communities to evacuate their homes, joining the hundreds who were evacuated from eight villages the day before. In addition, hospitals and residential buildings have come under threat and have also been evacuated by order of the authorities.

Recent wildfires that began in Veravas quickly spread to the outskirts of Athens, forcing residents to urgently evacuate as the fire surrounded their homes and neared the Greek capital. Hot and windy weather contributed to the rapid spread of the fires, leading to large-scale evacuations and a serious threat to the region's tourist centers.

Fire brigade spokesperson Vassilis Vathrakogiannis noted that despite the firefighters' superhuman efforts, the flames continue to spread at a frightening speed. A total of 510 firefighters, 152 vehicles, and 29 aircraft have been mobilized to fight the fire. However, the blaze continues to threaten new areas, forcing authorities to expand the evacuation zone.

The situation is worsening, and now not only local residents but also tourists visiting Greece are at risk. Massive smoke clouds have already enveloped major tourist centers, including Athens, which could lead to transport delays and route changes. Currently, half of Greece is at high risk of new fires due to extremely high temperatures and strong gusts of wind.
