The Most Instagrammed Airport in the World Might Surprise You
When it comes to airports that inspire the most Instagram posts, you might think of renowned hubs like Singapore’s Changi Airport or London’s Heathrow. However, a recent survey by adventure travel site Miss Tourism reveals that Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) takes the top spot globally, with an impressive 3,393,690 hashtags on the photo-sharing platform.
Airports have increasingly become destinations in their own right, with travelers documenting everything from their pre-flight tickets to iconic airport features. LAX is particularly popular, with users posting everything from selfies with boarding passes to snaps of the famous Theme Building and the popular In-N-Out spot for plane spotting.
The Most Photographed Airports Worldwide
Coming in second after LAX is San Francisco International Airport (SFO) with 1,047,624 hashtags, though the gap between the two is substantial. London’s Heathrow Airport (LHR) follows in third place, with 762,904 hashtags, while Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) takes fourth with 600,336, known for its unique Jungle Boardwalk. Rounding out the top five is Singapore’s Changi Airport (SIN), with 581,993 hashtags, celebrated for its design and the iconic indoor waterfall, The Jewel.
Other airports making the list include Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS), Dubai International (DXB), Tokyo Haneda (HND), and London’s Gatwick Airport (LGW). Despite being one of the busiest airports globally, Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson (ATL) did not make the top ten.
Airports as "Gateways for Adventure"
As Miss Tourism founder Yulia Saf noted, "Airports have transformed from simple transit points to gateways for adventure and unique experiences." The rise of social media has led travelers to share their journeys from the moment they arrive, highlighting how airports have become a central part of the travel experience.
