This Week's Most Notable New Airline Routes
Kuala Lumpur Subang Welcomes New Airlines
Subang Airport, once the primary gateway to Kuala Lumpur, has seen a resurgence in activity with the arrival of two new airlines. AirAsia, marking a return to its original home, launched double daily flights to Kota Kinabalu and Kuching on August 30. This was followed by Scoot introducing daily flights to Singapore on September 1. Subang, which had primarily hosted domestic turboprop flights for the past decade, is now seeing a revival with these new services, including the arrival of TransNusa’s A320s from Jakarta earlier in August.
T’Way Air Enters the Seoul-Paris Market
South Korean low-cost carrier T’Way Air has made its debut on the Seoul-Paris route, operating four weekly flights with its A330-200 aircraft as of August 28. This new service makes T’Way the fourth airline on this route, joining Korean Air, Asiana, and Air France. Despite being a budget airline, T’Way’s entry into this market underscores the increasing demand for travel between Seoul and Paris, particularly as it navigates the extended flight path avoiding Russian airspace.
Bees Airlines Expands from Romania
Romanian low-cost carrier Bees Airlines has launched several new routes, starting with Bucharest-Prague on August 23. This was followed by the introduction of Bucharest-Chișinău and Chișinău-Verona flights on August 27, and Bucharest-Tel Aviv on August 29. The airline, which operates with a single 21.7-year-old A320ceo, is rapidly expanding its network in an effort to fill the gap left by the now-defunct Blue Air.
flynas Adds Multiple Middle East and European Routes
Saudi Arabian low-cost carrier flynas has added five new Middle East routes in just 48 hours. These include connections from Jeddah and Riyadh to Abu Dhabi and Dubai Al Maktoum, as well as new services from Medina to both Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. The airline also resumed its Jeddah-Marseille and Jeddah-Brussels routes in early September, with plans to launch the first-ever Jeddah-Berlin flights shortly after.
Jetstar Introduces Adelaide-Proserpine Route
Jetstar made history on September 1 by launching the first-ever direct flights between Adelaide and Proserpine, Queensland. The route, operating three times weekly, serves as a gateway to the Whitsundays and is expected to attract significant demand from travelers seeking convenient access to this popular tourist destination.
Delta Connection Adds New York-Tulsa Route
Delta Connection inaugurated its second route from New York LaGuardia to Oklahoma with a new service to Tulsa on September 3. This marks the first time the LaGuardia-Tulsa route has been served by two airlines, with Delta joining American Eagle in offering direct flights between the two cities.
easyJet Reintroduces Budapest-Lyon Route
easyJet has reintroduced its Budapest-Lyon route as of August 28, addressing one of the largest unserved intra-European markets. The twice-weekly service reconnects the Hungarian and French cities, providing much-needed non-stop flights that were last operated by Transavia France in 2022.
And More...
Other notable route launches this week include United Airlines resuming Los Angeles-Shanghai Pudong flights, American Eagle reestablishing Chicago O'Hare-Evansville service, and SalamAir starting Muscat-Mumbai flights. Additionally, easyJet launched a new Amsterdam-Krakow route, and China Eastern introduced the first-ever Xian-Hanoi service.
