Toon Tour Returns as Newcastle's Top Open-Top Bus
The award-winning Toon Tour open-top sightseeing bus will be back in Newcastle later this month, Go North East has announced. This bus tour, showcasing Newcastle's top tourist attractions, was named the UK's best in the Open Top Cup by Great Scenic Journeys in 2023.
The Toon Tour received 65% of the social media votes in the final round of the competition, surpassing the New Forest Tours. It triumphed over other contenders, including the Edinburgh City Tour, a scenic journey through the Peak District, and tours along the Dorset and Cornwall coast. This hop-on, hop-off tour includes attractions, museums, nightlife, and industrial heritage sites in a circular route around the city.
The 55-minute tour continues to feature iconic stops like the Tyne Bridge, St James' Park, the Hancock Museum, Ouseburn, Grey's Monument, and Newcastle Castle, despite ongoing restoration work on the Tyne Bridge. For the upcoming season, buses have been refurbished, and Hits Radio presenters Steve and Karen will provide commentary filled with "fascinating facts."
Alex Warner, chief executive of Great Scenic Journeys, praised the Toon Tour, describing it as a "brilliant, fun-packed, invigorating adventure through this eclectic, iconic location." He highlighted the excellent customer service, stunning views, and engaging commentary as key factors in their victory.
Tickets for the Toon Tour are priced at £12.50 for adults and are valid on all Go North East services for the day, including the AD122 Hadrian's Wall Bus. The Toon Tour operates every 30 minutes from 10 am to 5 pm daily from Saturday, May 25 until September 1, and on weekends only from September 14 until October 6, excluding the Great North Run weekend.
