Tourism in the United Arab Emirates is reaching new heights, according to the World Travel & Tourism Council . The sector has seen remarkable growth, contributing significantly to the GDP, job creation, and visitor spending. Last year witnessed a rocketing 26% growth, with the sector contributing a record-breaking 220 billion dirhams to the UAE's GDP, accounting for 11.7% of the entire economy.
Despite the challenges faced during the pandemic, the tourism sector not only recovered but also experienced growth. Domestic visitor spending fully recovered in 2022 and continued its upward trajectory in 2023.
Julia Simpson, President & CEO of WTTC, expressed gratitude to the UAE for the impressive growth in the tourism sector, attributing it to the country's strategic vision and continuous efforts to enhance its tourism offerings. She emphasized the importance of sustainable development in promoting sector prosperity.
Looking ahead to 2024, further growth is anticipated, with a projected GDP exceeding 236 billion dirhams and an expected creation of over 833,000 jobs. International visitor spending is expected to increase, while domestic spending is forecasted to grow.
Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the sector has rebounded strongly and is poised for further expansion in the coming years. With strategic vision and a commitment to sustainable development, the UAE is solidifying its position as a leading global tourist destination. WTTC anticipates continued growth in the sector, with a positive outlook for both international and domestic visitor spending, reinforcing the enduring appeal of the UAE as a tourism powerhouse.
