Trailblazer Jennifer Kelsey: From Combat Missions to Alaska Airlines' Fleet Captain
Jennifer Kelsey's story is a testament to breaking gender norms and achieving dreams in aviation. From a young girl marveling at air shows in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, to a fleet captain at Alaska Airlines, Kelsey's path was driven by determination and a passion for flying. Her journey began with a solo flight in a Cessna 150 at 16, leading to an illustrious career flying C-130 Hercules for the Air National Guard in diverse missions from Afghanistan to Antarctica.
Joining Alaska Airlines in 2005, she climbed the ranks from captain to her current role as fleet captain. Despite the challenges of being a female pilot in a male-dominated field, Kelsey is grateful to those who paved the way and is now committed to inspiring more women to pursue aviation careers.
Alaska Airlines celebrates her story through the "I Am…" campaign, highlighting diversity and encouraging women to explore aviation careers. The campaign, along with initiatives like Aviation Day and the Ascend Pilot Academy—a partnership with Hillsboro Aero Academy—aims to address the pilot shortage and open doors for aspiring female pilots.
Kelsey’s journey exemplifies that with passion and perseverance, the sky's truly the limit. Her leadership and dedication not only contribute to Alaska Airlines' success but also pave the way for future generations of women pilots, ensuring a more diverse and inclusive aviation industry.
