TUI now also informs clients through the WhatsApp Messenger app
TUI customers can now receive news and updates from the travel company directly on their smartphones via the WhatsApp app.
For the past few weeks, WhatsApp, with its over two billion users, has been offering media and company updates that users can follow, and TUI is among the first brands to embrace this innovation, as reported by news.gtp.gr.
Stefan Simon, Senior Manager of Social Media and Digital Communications at TUI Group, emphasized the importance of early identification of new trends in social media.
"TUI is present on all major social media platforms, but WhatsApp has not been an easy area for brands in the past. That is now changing, and we are the first major travel brand to join," he added in a company statement.
By incorporating WhatsApp, TUI is integrating a new digital channel into its international digital communications strategy. While TUI's WhatsApp followers cannot reply directly, they can respond with emojis.
Under the "Updates" tab, interested individuals will receive posts from TUI several times a week. These posts include travel inspiration, authentic stories from TUI colleagues, entertainment and quiz formats, and news on sustainability topics.
"With this new communication offering, TUI is taking on a pioneering role in the travel industry," the company stated.
The channel feature was recently introduced by WhatsApp in October 2023. According to the parent company Meta, approximately 30 million people use the messaging service in the UK.
