Ukrainian polar explorers showed walruses: video
Ukrainian polar explorers from the Akademik Vernadsky station encountered walruses, which experts consider to be extremely rare in the vicinity of the station.
This information was shared by the National Antarctic Science Center. "That morning, Taras Peretyatko, a biologist from the 28th Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition (UAE), was on an important mission to count penguins and collect data from loggers. He stumbled upon walruses by chance, as they are very rare in this area," the center stated in a Facebook post.
The video depicts young female walruses. They are seldom spotted near Vernadsky, as walruses primarily inhabit the islands of the Subantarctic.
As TravelWise wrote, penguins continue to hatch their eggs and wait for their cubs in Antarctica near Vernadsky station.
