Recently, hundreds of travelers who had planned to spend their vacation on the world’s largest cruise ship, Icon of the Seas, operated by Royal Caribbean, were met with disappointment when their trip was canceled just two days before departure. The cancellation was caused by sudden maintenance that the company had not foreseen. The cruise liner was forced to halt for technical work, sparking a wave of criticism and frustration among the passengers.

Many families, including those who had been waiting for their journey for a long time, had to change their plans at the last minute. One such family from Ohio flew to Miami for a seven-day voyage aboard Icon of the Seas. They had spent a considerable amount on flights, and their three-year-old son was eagerly awaiting the adventure, which now will not happen.

Passengers already aboard the liner had to change their itinerary. The ship skipped a planned stop in Saint Thomas and instead headed to Royal Caribbean's private island in the Bahamas, CocoCay. Royal Caribbean assured travelers that they would receive compensation for one day of the cruise.

Refunds and Compensation

The cruise company offered full refunds and cruise credits to affected customers. Additionally, they are helping to partially reimburse costs for changed or canceled flights. However, many travelers expressed dissatisfaction, claiming that cruise prices have already increased, and they will not be able to rebook a similar trip under the same conditions.

One passenger, who has two Royal Caribbean cruises booked for next year, expressed hope that this incident would be an isolated case. The Icon of the Seas is expected to return to Port Miami this week and will stay there for about a week to complete the technical work.
