US predicts a decline in airfares in 2024
Despite inflation and the cost of living crisis, the cost of tickets from American airlines may fall. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labour Statistics' Consumer Price Index, which was published in February this year, ticket prices fell by 6% in January compared to last year and by 15% over the past 10 years.
In addition, according to the American Express Global Business Travel Air Monitor 2024, tickets to international destinations may also fall by up to 12%. This was reported in the Boston Herald.
It is noted that such pricing is the result of the expansion of flights and company policies aimed at ensuring accessibility for their customers. In particular, in 2023, airlines added 10% more flights between the United States and Central America, and in 2024, it is expected that air carriers will increase this number by another 10%. It is also reported that transportation to the European and Asian regions will be expanded.
AmEx GBT made a prediction that the average cost of economy class tickets will fall in 2024:
- South America - North America - by 11.9%.
- North America - Central America - by 7.8%.
- North America - Asia - by 7.5%.
- Asia - North America - by 5.2%.
- North America - Europe - by 3.5%.
- Europe - North America - by 1.2%.
