Victoria Boosts Regional Event Hosting with New Funding and Festivals
The Allan Labor Government of Victoria is taking significant strides to enhance the state's ability to host a variety of sporting, cultural, and entertainment events in regional areas. A recent announcement in Ballarat by Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos highlighted the launch of the Food, Fire and Light Festival, set to dazzle attendees at Sovereign Hill this October.
In conjunction with this announcement, new funding opportunities were unveiled, stemming from the Labor Government’s $38 million Regional Events Fund. These grants aim to draw thousands of visitors, boost employment, and support local businesses throughout Victoria.
The funding initiative allows event organizers to apply for grants up to $500,000 to develop festivals, sports competitions, and exhibitions with national or international appeal. Additionally, smaller grants up to $50,000 are available to support marketing efforts for events that attract visitors from within the state and beyond.
Since its establishment in 2016, the Regional Events Fund has supported over 350 events across Victoria, including the Riverboats Music Festival on the Murray and the Ballarat Marathon. These events play a pivotal role in sustaining local economies and the tourism, events, and hospitality sectors in regional Victoria.
This proactive approach by the Allan Labor Government aims to bolster Victoria’s $37.8 billion tourism economy. It focuses on increasing visitor numbers, extending their stays, and enhancing spending within the communities.
As part of the broader strategy, these regional events not only promote local culture and entertainment but also generate significant economic benefits and civic pride, further solidifying Victoria's status as Australia's events capital. Minister Steve Dimopoulos emphasized that regional events are key to boosting jobs and supporting local businesses while enhancing community spirit throughout the state.
