VisitBritain Boosts Economy by £1.26 Billion Through Tourism Efforts Across the UK
Recent data reveals that visitors spent an additional £1.26 billion across Britain due to efforts by the national tourism agency, VisitBritain/VisitEngland. This impressive figure reflects the agency's activities from April 2021 to July 2023.
At the agency's annual review on May 22, leaders discussed strategies for enhancing the visitor economy. Forecasts indicate that international visitors will spend £32.5 billion in the UK this year, a 5% increase from 2023. Domestically, 35% of Brits are more likely to choose UK trips over overseas travel in the next year.
Nick de Bois, British Tourist Authority Chairman, highlighted tourism's significant economic impact, contributing £127 billion annually. Despite strong growth, he noted challenges such as competition from Europe. VisitBritain plans to target high-growth markets like the US and Australia to drive spending.
Tourism also shapes global perceptions of Britain, with visitors more likely to invest in British products post-visit. VisitBritain aims to boost perceptions of Britain's natural beauty and hospitality through its GREAT campaigns.
Looking ahead, the agency will use film tourism to attract visitors and partner with airlines to convert interest into bookings. The Local Visitor Economy Partnership programme aims to grow sustainable local tourism economies. Overall, tourism remains a key industry, employing over three million people across the UK.
