During December weekends, a significant link on the primary motorway, A10 Zuid to A4 Schiphol/Rotterdam close to Amsterdam, will be shut down. The initial shutdown will extend from Friday night, November 29, at 8:00 PM, until Monday morning, December 2, at 5:00 AM. Subsequent closures are planned for identical days of the week across the following two weekends. These will take place on December 6 and 13, starting Friday at 10:00 PM and ending Monday at 5:00 AM. Moreover, limitations will impact the S109 entrance ramp from Europaboulevard to A10 Zuid on both Saturday and Sunday between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM.

All vehicles will be rerouted through the A2 and A9, which could substantially prolong travel duration for visitors and nearby residents. The closures will influence urban transportation, particularly on key roads and junctions close to the impacted zones. Passengers traveling to Schiphol Airport are encouraged to allocate extra time for their trips due to possible holdups. Visitors organizing journeys should consider potential disruptions. It is recommended to use public transport or alternative means of transportation to avoid inconvenience.

The temporary changes in traffic flow complement ongoing initiatives to encourage eco-friendly mobility and improve urban infrastructure. The city is actively implementing measures to reduce car usage, creating more comfortable conditions for pedestrians, cyclists, and public transportation users. In recent years, the number of car-sharing vehicles has significantly increased, a pilot project for bike rentals has been launched, and public transportation has been made free for young children during certain periods. Some streets have been converted into pedestrian zones, while experiments with alternative delivery methods are helping to ease the burden on urban infrastructure.

Additionally, the city has significantly reduced the number of parking spaces, repurposing the freed-up areas for green spaces, recreational zones, and bike lanes. Parking permits in central districts have also been reduced, allowing a substantial portion of parking areas to be repurposed. Recently, speed limits were introduced on roads in many areas to enhance safety. All these measures are part of a large-scale initiative aimed at adapting the city to modern environmental challenges and creating a comfortable living environment for residents.

By carefully planning road closures and detours, Amsterdam aims to maintain safety and efficiency during critical maintenance periods. Such efforts are a key part of ensuring the reliability of the city's transportation network and its ability to meet the needs of a dynamic urban environment. Through these temporary adjustments, the city reaffirms its commitment to preserving accessibility and minimizing the impact of necessary improvements on daily life.
