Why European hotels are better than American ones and how they make guests feel "significant"
Tourists in the United States and Europe may have noticed some differences in hotel services, which some may consider advantages and others disadvantages. Connoisseurs of quality and comfort mostly praise small hotels in European countries, while Americans are focused on luxury.
An article in The Telegraph explains why American corporations are losing out to old European hotels. The main difference lies in the hospitality of the staff.
"Why are European hotels so much better? To begin with, they have a more ingrained commitment to old-world hospitality. The Goring and Brown's in London, La Réserve and The Peninsula in Paris, Hotel de Russie in Rome, and Badrutt's Palace in St. Moritz - along with many others - are focused on pleasing guests," the author of the article explained.
Analyzing the quality of American luxury hotels, she noted that the owners there are mostly profit-oriented. Additionally, the US suffers from a lack of well-trained staff.
Meanwhile, in Europe, a lot of attention is paid to employees who make efforts to ensure that guests are satisfied even with the smallest details.
"From the waiter who remembers your favorite cocktail or morning triple espresso, to the maid who leaves a lint brush if she notices cat hair on your jacket, or the veteran concierge who informs a regular guest about a new restaurant. This level of service gives people a sense of self-worth and confidence that their hotel expenses were not in vain," The Telegraph explained.
