WTTC and IC Bellagio Launch 'Community Conscious Travel' Campaign
The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), in partnership with IC Bellagio and other private sector members, has introduced a new consumer campaign aimed at promoting sustainable global exploration. Dubbed 'Community Conscious Travel,' the initiative seeks to balance tourism with environmental health and resident well-being at popular destinations worldwide.
This campaign encourages travelers to make responsible choices, such as visiting during off-peak seasons and exploring less crowded areas, which can alleviate pressure on local resources and enhance sustainability. These strategies are intended to foster a more equitable distribution of tourism benefits, ensuring communities and ecosystems thrive year-round.
The 'Community Conscious Travel' campaign is set to fully launch before the 2024 Summer season, leveraging social media and video storytelling to highlight its impact. It focuses initially on Italy, intending to spark a global conversation on responsible tourism and its benefits to local communities.
Travel and tourism significantly contribute to economic growth and employment, especially in regions like Italy where the sector injected nearly €215 billion into the economy and supported almost three million jobs last year. Moreover, the industry is notable for employing a diverse workforce, including a high percentage of women and young people, and providing opportunities across various high-skilled sectors.
As this sector continues to expand, supporting an expected 350 million jobs globally this year, the importance of sustainable practices becomes even more crucial. The WTTC and IC Bellagio are committed to pioneering solutions that promote sustainable travel, ensuring that tourism remains a force for good in the global economy and in the communities it touches.
