You can rent a house in Sardinia for 1 euro per month: who will be lucky
In the village of Ollolai in the heart of the Italian island of Sardinia, foreigners are offered to rent housing for 1 euro per month. Ten newcomers will be lucky enough to get such favorable conditions.
The main purpose of this step is the desire of the authorities to increase the population. This was reported by SchengenVisaInfo.
Thus, the local council made a public call for anyone interested in working remotely from the village.
Data shows that the village's population has been aging and declining in recent years, and for this reason, the authorities want to attract more foreigners.
The village's population has fallen to 1174 people since 2013 over the past 40 years due to the migration of residents to big cities, and now the village wants to restore it by offering low prices.
Commenting on the move, the mayor of Ollolai, Francesco Columbu, said that it is extremely important to curb depopulation. The mayor went on to emphasize that they are also working to improve living conditions for all residents.
Ollolai has already taken similar steps. The name of the village was featured in many media outlets due to an offer to buy abandoned houses for 1 euro, provided that the buyer repairs the housing. Since then, the village council has sold a total of 13 houses. Three houses that are in poor condition are still for sale.
