10 cheap travel destinations to help you save money
In times of high inflation, it has become popular to buy copies instead of expensive branded items. This applies to everything: clothes, accessories, shoes. But, did you know that this also applies to the tourism industry? The main idea is to choose less popular tourist regions instead of popular hot spots.
GO Banking Rates has compiled a list of ten lesser-known destinations. Arriving there, you will save your money and time. But it will definitely not affect the quality of your vacation!
Instead of Bali, pay attention to Lombok (Indonesia)
Bali is known for its sunny beaches and clear blue water. However, this island may not be "affordable" for everyone. As an alternative, we suggest visiting Lombok, which is located not far from Bali. The climate of Lombok is similar to neighboring Bali, but somewhat drier - even in the wet season, it rarely rains for more than an hour. There are significantly fewer tourists here, it is more cozy and has beautiful views. It is sometimes said that the general atmosphere in Lombok is similar to that of Bali before it became a tourist center.
Montreal instead of New York
For those who love cities, New York should be skipped, and instead go a little further and stay in Montreal, Canada. Oleksandra Dubakova, travel expert and head of marketing at FreeTour.com, says:
"Visiting New York is very expensive - $2500 for a week-long trip. Montreal offers a rich history, great food and lively city life for almost half the price - $1500."
Lisbon instead of Paris
Paris is a city of love with exquisite architecture. If you're looking for a city to spend a romantic vacation, Paris is not the only one with an aura of love. We suggest visiting Lisbon as a cheaper alternative.
"A week-long vacation in Paris costs about $2000, while Lisbon costs $1,200 and offers the same romantic aura and architectural beauty," says Dubakova.
Zanzibar (Tanzania) instead of Bora Bora
If you are dreaming of traveling to a tropical country with charming beaches, we recommend considering Zanzibar. Bora Bora is known for its quiet bungalows over the water. In Zanzibar, everything is the same: warm climate, beaches, bungalows, rich history and culture. And the price can be 50% cheaper.
Ljubljana (Slovenia) instead of Venice
Venice is a city with a special charm, known for its canals. The Slovenian capital Ljubljana is not far behind and has a lot to offer tourists: picturesque waterways, incredible architecture, and less crowded streets. You can also save up to 30%-40% on accommodation and meals here.
Palawan (Philippines) instead of the Maldives
Vacations in the Maldives have always been considered a sign of wealth. There are incredible islands and resorts that amaze with their luxury. Palawan is a paradise island like them, where everything is more accessible. It has everything for a great vacation. A nice bonus is that you can save 40%-50% of your money.
Instead of Santorini (Greece) - Puglia (Italy)
Santorini is a Greek island with snow-white buildings and breathtaking views. It is always crowded and full of tourists, so it is not surprising that vacations here are becoming less and less affordable. Puglia offers Mediterranean charm with its beautiful coasts, historic villages, and delicious cuisine. Vacations can be 35% cheaper than in Santorini.
Instead of Dubrovnik (Croatia) - Cavtat (Croatia)
Vacations in Croatia are so attractive to tourists because you can find peace and tranquility here. This is especially popular with residents of megacities. Dubrovnik is not only the most popular resort city in Croatia, but also an expensive one. Pay attention to Cavtat. You can find luxury establishments, great traditional restaurants, and a more traditional atmosphere, and you won't have to fight your way through rivers of tourists with a selfie stick like in Dubrovnik.
Hotels in Cavtat are cheaper by $150-300 per night, and Dubrovnik is only a 20-minute drive away. This difference in price is also noticeable in restaurants.
Instead of Kyoto (Japan) - Hoi An (Vietnam)
Kyoto is a popular Japanese city known for its temples, gardens, and traditional tea and delicious ramen.
"However, a trip here can be quite expensive: a hotel costs an average of $120 per night, and meals cost about $30 per person," explains Augustinas Milaknis, Head of Public Relations at Ratepunk, a travel booking app.
"Hoi An, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Vietnam, is a great alternative with its well-preserved ancient city, lighted streets, and rich history. Accommodation in Hoi An can cost as little as $50 per night, and a delicious meal can cost around $15 per person."
Instead of Napa (California) - Sonoma (California)
Despite the fact that these two places are close, they differ in their prices.
Jared Benoff, founder of Vacationeeze, a family-run travel agency, says:
"You have to look a little closer to see some key differences between the two regions. For example, the Bardessono in Yountville, Napa, will cost about $1500 per night, while Madrona, recently named one of the best in the world by Travel + Leisure, will cost about $690 per night. People visiting Sonoma will also find generally more affordable prices for wine tasting and dining."
