A carnival float catches fire in Germany: 5 people injured

Southwestern Germany witnessed a horrific event: a carnival ride in Kehl caught fire, leaving five people injured. They were fleeing from the merciless flames, but they still touched the celebrants.

Around 15:00 local time, the joyous Fasnacht carnival procession suddenly turned into a nightmare when part of the installation caught fire. Panic-stricken parade participants threw themselves off the platform to escape the flames, ABC News reports.

Five people were unable to safely jump off and avoid injury. Some of the victims suffered serious burns, while others were hit by falls.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire, but the parade had to be canceled.

The cause of the fire and the condition of the victims are currently unknown. The police are investigating to establish all the circumstances of the tragedy.

As you know, Fasnacht is celebrated in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and other parts of Europe. It is a time for fun, entertainment and masquerades, when people dress in costumes, dance in the streets, and eat special dishes.

Fasnacht usually falls in February or March, six weeks before Lent.
