A glass elevator collapsed in a hotel in Bali, killing five people.
According to local police, the incident occurred at the Ayuterra Resort Hotel in Ubud. At the time of the accident, there were two men and three women in the elevator: all of them were hotel employees aged 19 to 24. According to law enforcement officials, a cable broke near the elevator and it fell 100 meters down a hill, The Guardian reports.
According to Bali's deputy governor, the elevator was declared safe after a routine inspection in November 2022.
However, the police believe that the accident could have been caused by the shortening of the elevator cables. There were three of them in 2019, but only one at the time of the accident.
