What is known about the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express route

"The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, Belmond's iconic train, is launching a new route from Paris to Portofino for two days in June. This innovation follows the end of the classic route operated by British Pullman, which connected Paris and Venice with London. The route passes through France, taking in the spectacular scenery from Dijon to the Côte d'Azur, and then crosses the border into Italy.

Passengers are treated to a menu from Michelin-starred chef Jean Imbert, and music is provided by local pianists and evening swing bands. Prices start at $8,525 per person for three nights, but for this money, passengers receive an extraordinary level of service from Belmond.

The route ends in Santa Margherita Ligure, the gateway to Portofino, at 13:00 the following day. Eight new suites are available on board, which debuted in 2023, and are sold one-way only, with the return journey to be made on other trains.

This is a historic event, but not the last time the train will visit the Italian Riviera, as it is planned to make this route annually, with further confirmation of dates for 2025.

The article also emphasizes that in other European countries, the direct rail route between Italy and Slovenia is being revived after more than 100 years. At the same time, in South Africa, there has been a lot of hype lately about a train that is said to be going nowhere. Kruger Shalati: The Train on the Bridge is a hotel near the Kruger National Park, one of the largest game reserves in Africa.

Recently, an entire train set of cars was renovated into 24 modern suites with balconies and a swimming pool overlooking the Sabi River. Now tourists are offered the opportunity for exciting wildlife sightings, including Africa's Big Five.
