A woman who booked an expensive hotel for a family vacation found out that it was nine hours away from the airport
A tourist was shocked to find out that the hotel she had booked for a £3,000 family vacation was a nine-hour drive from the airport with no transportation.
The woman had organized a trip to Tenerife with her husband and two children, and only after booking did she realize the journey they would have to take to get to the accommodation, which included a ferry ride. Despite trying to cancel just an hour after confirming the reservation, she was told that the cost was non-refundable, LancsLive reports.
Speaking about her experience, she said: "We booked it on Sunday night around 10pm on Expedia. It was a package vacation, so you choose the hotel first and then the flights."
Describing how they got into the predicament, she said: "The first flight option was Edinburgh to Tenerife South Airport. We had never been there, so we just assumed it was the closest airport to the hotel. I've never been on a package vacation where they offer you a nine-hour drive to the hotel from the airport. So we made the reservation."
Later, after looking at the hotel's location, the woman tried to rectify the situation, but it was all in vain. The hotel refused to refund the money, even though no more than an hour had passed since the booking.
"After checking, we confirmed that according to the individual airline's policy for this booking, this ticket was non-refundable and non-transferable, and any voluntary changes or cancellations should be handled directly with the airlines," explained an Expedia spokesperson.
As TravelWise reported, most hotels allow travelers who make refundable reservations to cancel their reservations up to 48 hours in advance without penalty, allowing them to rebook their stay later when hotel rates become more affordable
