Air Montenegro Launches New Tivat-Baku Route
Air Montenegro inaugurated its new Tivat-Baku route, marking the arrival of the first passengers from Baku. The flights will operate twice a week, every Monday and Friday, enhancing connectivity between Montenegro and Azerbaijan.
A special welcome was organized at Tivat Airport for the first passengers, with representatives from Air Montenegro, the National Tourism Organization of Montenegro, Airports of Montenegro, and the Tourism Organization of Tivat in attendance.
Maja Bjelić, PR Manager of Air Montenegro, expressed optimism about the new route's impact on tourism and economic ties. "We believe that the introduction of this route will positively impact both tourism and economic connectivity between our countries," Bjelić stated. "The direct Baku-Tivat route is expected to significantly increase the number of tourists from Azerbaijan and stimulate additional investments from this market into Montenegro."
Airports of Montenegro reported serving over 783,000 passengers since the beginning of the year, with a significant increase in traffic at both Podgorica and Tivat airports. They also highlighted new routes to Izmir, Birmingham, and the upcoming route to Bristol, demonstrating the expansion of Montenegro's national airline network.
The National Tourism Organization of Montenegro emphasized the growing popularity of Montenegro among Azerbaijani tourists. According to the Statistical Office of Montenegro, there was an 84.25% increase in Azerbaijani tourist arrivals in 2023 compared to 2022, and a 108.17% increase compared to 2019. Overnight stays also surged by 132.73% in 2023 compared to the previous year, underscoring the successful promotion of Montenegro as a desirable destination.
The Tourism Organization of Tivat welcomed the new route, noting its potential to boost tourism year-round. They reported a 69% increase in overnight stays by Azerbaijani tourists in 2023 compared to 2022 and anticipate further growth with the bi-weekly flights.
The launch event highlighted Montenegrin hospitality and cultural traditions, reinforcing the country's appeal as a tourist destination. Baku, known for its blend of historical and modern attractions, promises to be a significant source of visitors eager to explore Montenegro's rich cultural and natural heritage.
