Airport, which has been recognized as the best in the world for the fourth year in a row
What makes an airport great? A good mix of shops, restaurants, and bars? Low number of delays? A nice enough luxury offering? Low carbon footprint?
With so many factors to consider, it's hard to judge which airport is the best in the world - but that's okay, because there's the Air Transport Awards to tell us!" writes TimeOut.
The awards were announced at a prestigious ceremony in Greece, organized by Hermes, Air Transport News and a number of industry organizations such as Airports Council International and the International Air Transport Association.
The winners were selected by a vote of more than 4,000 industry executives and Air Transport News readers. For the fourth year in a row, industry awards have recognized Istanbul iGA as the world's best airport. Considering that it has only been open for five years, this is quite an impressive result.
"In order to offer our guests an enjoyable travel experience, we have set higher standards for ourselves in terms of efficiency, sustainability, innovation, and passenger satisfaction," said Selahattin Bilgen, acting CEO of the airport, according to Daily Sabah.
Kostas Yastrou, CEO and COO of Air Transport News, said the airport's resilience helped it quickly return to pre-pandemic performance and that the award reflects the dedicated work of all airport staff.
Other winners included Indian carrier IndiGo, which won Best Airline, Singapore-based Scoot, which won Best Low Cost Airline, and International Airlines Group, which was named Aviation Week's Eco-Airline of the Year.
This award is not to be confused with SkyTrax's annual ranking of the world's best airports, which is almost guaranteed to be won by Singapore's Changi Airport (a place so much fun it has its own Time Out list of things to do).
Travel Wise wrote that Miami Airport predicts passenger traffic growth by the end of March.
