Albania Emerges on the World Tourism Stage: Record-Breaking Results in 2023
If you're dreaming of a new and unique travel destination, it's time to turn your attention to Albania. The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has published data confirming that Albania has become one of the fastest-growing tourist destinations in Europe.
In 2023, Albania's travel and tourism sector achieved incredible results, surpassing all previous records. The sector's contribution to the country's GDP reached a record high, 37% more than in previous years. This means that every fourth lek in Albania's economy was earned through tourism.
The tourism sector also supports one-fifth of all jobs in the country. In 2023, the number of people employed in tourism increased by more than 10% compared to previous years, reaching nearly 269,000. This growth underscores the importance of tourism to the country's economic well-being.
WTTC President & CEO Julia Simpson noted, "Albania is a shining example of how tourism can drive economic prosperity and job creation. The record-breaking figures represent real progress and real opportunities for thousands of workers. Albania has established itself as a great destination for travel."
Albania continues to set new records, affirming its position as one of Europe's most popular tourist destinations. With the opening of Vlora International Airport, the Albanian government is intensifying efforts to attract international tourists, capitalizing on the country's growing popularity due to its rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and affordability.
