Passengers on an American Airlines flight from Dallas/Fort Worth to Las Vegas faced a 22-hour delay due to a maintenance issue. The flight, operated by an Airbus A321, was about to perform its first passenger flight after six months on the ground.

The flight, AA1771, was scheduled to depart from gate D17 at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) at 18:52 CDT on Sunday and arrive at Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) at 19:43 PDT. However, a maintenance issue prevented the aircraft from pushing back from the gate, leading to an initial delay of six hours. Despite American Airlines' indications that the flight would depart early Monday morning, flight data showed that the departure time was further postponed to Monday evening, nearly 24 hours after the scheduled time.

John Petrisek’s son was onboard the flight and expressed his frustration on social media. The American Airlines representative responded hours later, indicating a new departure time of 00:38 on Monday. However, flight data later confirmed that AA1771 was not scheduled to leave DFW until 17:00 on Monday. This resulted in a total delay of 22 hours, affecting passengers who were unable to find alternative flights or chose to wait.

The aircraft in question, N556UW, is a nearly 12-year-old Airbus A321. According to Planespotters.net and Flightradar24, the plane had been ferried from El Salvador International Airport (SAL) on Sunday, arriving at DFW only 31 minutes before its scheduled departure. N556UW had spent six months at SAL, likely undergoing heavy maintenance at Aeroman's facility, the largest aircraft maintenance center in Latin America.

American Airlines has a history of sending its A321s to SAL for maintenance. Last month, the airline completed its first A321T conversion to the standard A321 seating layout at this facility. Despite the lengthy delay, the aircraft remained at gate D17 at DFW and was scheduled to operate as AA1660 to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Monday.

The delay caused significant inconvenience to passengers, highlighting the complexities and challenges of aircraft maintenance and scheduling. As the airline strives to maintain its fleet, such incidents underscore the importance of communication and timely updates to ensure passenger satisfaction.
