Amsterdam, in the midst of tulip season, transforms into a vibrant mosaic of color and joy, offering a unique and unforgettable city break. The city's brief but spectacular tulip season draws visitors to experience its floral splendor and rich history.

In Lisse, just an hour from Amsterdam, the Tulip Experience Amsterdam captivates visitors with over a million tulips. Despite the unpredictable spring weather, the sight of these bright flowers spreads cheer. Visitors, including couples and groups, seize moments between rain showers to capture Instagram-worthy photos amidst the tulips, traditional Dutch clogs, bikes, and a windmill.

The indoor exhibition at the Tulip Experience is bustling, but the expansive outdoor gardens provide ample space for everyone to appreciate the Netherlands' iconic flower. Interestingly, tulips originally hail from Kazakhstan, arriving in the Netherlands in the 16th century via modern-day Turkey. Their name is derived from "tulipan," referencing the tulip-shaped turbans worn by Ottoman sultans.

Sylvia Pennings, a third-generation tulip grower, explains that the experience was created to prevent damage to bulb fields from eager photographers. She passionately shares the history and cultivation of tulips, noting that naming varieties after celebrities or popular brands boosts sales. Among the many varieties, names like Paul McCartney, Bob Marley, and Donald Duck stand out.

Throughout Amsterdam, tulips are ubiquitous in various forms, from blooms to skincare products. At the Anantara Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky, guests can enjoy tulip-infused cocktails at Bar The Tailor, a tribute to the hotel's founder, Adolf Wilhelm Krasnapolsky. The bar’s decor and themed cocktails offer a cozy retreat.

Amsterdam, celebrating its 750th anniversary next year, feels more vibrant and inviting than ever. A guided walk through the city's main canals and the Jordaan district reveals its rich history, architecture, and culinary delights. Visitors can savor Dutch herring, stroopwafels, and apple pie, each offering a taste of gezellig, the Dutch concept of coziness and contentment.
