In a significant update for travelers heading to Bali, the Bali Provincial Government has announced the introduction of a mandatory tourist tax, set to take effect from February 14, 2024. Aimed at preserving the island's rich cultural heritage and natural environment, Indonesia AirAsia is actively informing its passengers of this new regulation, which mandates a levy of IDR 150,000 (approximately USD 10) for all foreign tourists visiting Bali, in accordance with Law Number 15 of 2023 of the Province of Bali.

The new tourism levy is part of Bali's efforts to fund conservation, revitalization, and preservation initiatives, ensuring the island remains a pristine and culturally vibrant destination for future generations. The levy will support a variety of projects, including the development of high-quality public transportation and infrastructure, along with the preservation of Balinese customs, arts, and traditions.

Key Details for AirAsia Passengers:

  • Payment Process: Foreign tourists are required to pay the levy before arriving in Bali. Payments can be made online through the official website www.lovebali.baliprov.go.id or via the Love Bali app, available on the App Store and Google Play Store. During the payment process, tourists will need to provide personal details such as passport number, name, email address, and arrival date, selecting their preferred method of payment.
  • Levy Voucher: Upon payment, a Levy Voucher in the form of a QR code will be issued. This QR code will be essential for completing the entry process at Bali's airport, as officers will scan it upon arrival. The voucher will also be sent to the registered email, so it's crucial to ensure the email provided is valid and active.

Purpose and Benefits of the Bali Tourism Levy:

The levy is not just a regulatory measure but a step towards enhancing Bali's tourism landscape. It supports heritage preservation, including the safeguarding of Balinese traditions, arts, and local wisdom, contributing to the island's sustainable cultural ecosystem. Additionally, it aids in nurturing nature, allowing tourists to play a part in preserving Bali's cultural and natural beauty, thereby elevating the overall tourist experience with improved services and safer, more enjoyable environments.

Traveling with AirAsia:

AirAsia is committed to ensuring a smooth travel experience for its passengers amidst these new regulations. Travelers are encouraged to check in online using the AirAsia MOVE application on the AirAsia website or the mobile app, with check-in kiosks available for boarding pass reprinting starting 3 hours before scheduled departures.

This update reflects AirAsia's dedication to keeping its passengers informed and compliant with destination-specific regulations, ensuring a hassle-free journey to one of the world's most beloved islands. As Bali prepares to welcome tourists under this new levy system, the move is seen as a positive step towards sustainable tourism and the long-term preservation of the island's unique heritage and natural beauty.
