Barcelona-El Prat Airport has been hit hard by severe storms in Spain, leading to dozens of flight delays and cancellations. The country recently suffered one of the deadliest floods in its history, resulting in over 200 fatalities and leaving many areas, including busy airports, battling to maintain regular operations. On Monday, storm-related issues forced around 50 departing flights to be canceled or delayed, and 17 incoming flights were diverted to other airports as heavy rain brought airport operations to a halt.

Images circulating on social media show the extent of flooding at Barcelona-El Prat, with rainwater entering terminals and causing leaks. The storm also inundated access roads, complicating travel to the airport and delaying passengers. British Airways and easyJet were among the airlines affected; both advised travelers to allow extra travel time to the airport, with easyJet continuing to monitor the situation closely.

Beyond Barcelona, Spain’s eastern coast was devastated by unprecedented flooding in Valencia, where a year’s worth of rain fell in just hours. The region’s airport was submerged, forcing passengers to navigate floodwaters on foot. While operations have resumed, airlines advise checking schedules for potential disruptions.
