A tragic incident occurred today at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport when a person fell into the running engine of a KLM Embraer E190 aircraft. The identity of the deceased has not been confirmed, leaving it unclear whether the individual was an airport employee or a member of the public.

The incident took place just before 15:00 local time, as the Embraer 190 was preparing for flight KL 1341 to Billund, Denmark. The aircraft, identified as PH-EZL, a 14-year-old Embraer regional jet, was scheduled for pushback at 14:25.

In a statement on X (formerly known as Twitter), Schiphol Airport expressed its condolences: "Today there was a horrible incident where a person ended up in an airplane engine. Our thoughts go out to the relatives and we are caring for the passengers and colleagues who witnessed this. The Royal Military Police is currently conducting an investigation."

Emergency response teams arrived swiftly following reports of the incident around 15:00 local time. The 'Koninklijke Marechaussee' Royal Military Police confirmed the fatality and announced the start of an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the event.

Shortly after the incident, the Marechaussee reported that all passengers and employees on the affected flight had been safely disembarked and were receiving care. This suggests that neither passengers nor crew members were involved in the fatality.

This tragic event has shocked the aviation community, and thoughts are with the friends and family of the deceased during this difficult time.
