British Airways Flight Evacuated in Bermuda After Bomb Threat

A British Airways flight from Bermuda to London was evacuated before takeoff on May 5th following a bomb threat. The Boeing 777-200ER was preparing to depart when passengers were forced to disembark, and the aircraft has remained at L.F. Wade International Airport since the incident.

The Bermuda Police Service confirmed the threat on Facebook, noting an "ongoing emergency situation" at the airport. Passengers were safely evacuated from the British Airways flight. The incident resulted in road closures near the airport, though these have since been reopened.

Videos on social media showed passengers near the aircraft and a Royal Air Force C-17 Globemaster III at the airport. The Boeing 777-200ER, identified as G-VIIN, was on the runway when the threat emerged. The flight, BA158, was scheduled to depart Bermuda at 20:50 and arrive in London the next day.

British Airways emphasized the safety of passengers and employees, following standard procedures to disembark. The airline is caring for passengers and crew while working to return them to London Heathrow as soon as possible.

Bermuda's only non-US destination is London, with British Airways operating a daily flight to Heathrow. The remaining flights from BDA primarily go to North American cities like New York, Boston, and Newark.
